ก่อนที่จะเล่าตำนานความสำเร็จของขนมชิ้นนี้ในประเทศเกาหลีใต้ เราต้องมาทำความรู้จักเบื้องต้นเกี่ยวกับช็อกโกพายกันก่อน โดยช็อกโกพาย เป็นขนมหวานทานเล่นที่ประกอบไปด้วยแป้งเค้ก 2 ชิ้นประกบกันด้วยมาร์ชเมลโลว์สีขาวรสหวานละมุน ที่เคลือบด้วยช็อกโกแลตอันแสนเข้มข้นอีกที ทุกคนจะได้สัมผัสกับความหวานนุ่มหนุบหนับจากขนมชิ้นนี้ ซึ่งมีต้นกำเนิดมาจากรัฐเทนเนสซี ทางตอนใต้ของประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา ตั้งแต่ในปี ค.ศ.1929 โดยชัตตานูกา เบเกอรี ที่รังสรรค์ขนมพายพระจันทร์ ซึ่งนำคุกกี้เกรแฮม 2 ชิ้นมาประกบกับมาร์ชเมลโลว์ จากนั้นก็นำไปเคลือบด้วยช็อกโกแลตรสหวานเข้ากันกำลังดี โดยในปัจจุบันนี้ช็อกโกพายได้พัฒนาสูตรไปไกลมาก เพราะมีหลากหลายรสชาติให้เลือกทานไม่เพียงแต่เป็นแป้งเค้กธรรมดาๆ แล้ว แต่ก็ยังมีแป้งเค้กรสกล้วย แป้งเค้กรสชาเขียว และแป้งเค้กรสชานมไข่มุกมาให้ทุกคนได้เลือกทานตามใจชอบอีกด้วยค่ะ

Choco Pie was a snack made of 2 pieces of cake flour filled with white tender marshmallow and smooth chocolate coating. ดังที่แอดมินกล่าวในข้างต้นว่าขนมช็อกโกพายมีต้นกำเนิดมาจากประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา จากนั้นความอร่อยจึงมาแพร่หลายยังดินแดนตะวันออกได้อย่างไร เดี๋ยวแอดมินจะเล่าให้ฟังค่ะ จุดเริ่มต้นของขนมหวานนุ่มหนุบหนับชิ้นนี้ที่ประเทศเกาหลีใต้เกิดขึ้นจากการที่สมาชิกของกลุ่มบริษัททงยัง คอนเฟกชันนารี ได้ไปเยือนสถานที่ผลิตขนมรัฐทางตอนใต้ของประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา เมื่อปี ค.ศ.1973 และได้มีโอกาสทานขนมพายพระจันทร์ แล้วเกิดติดตราตรึงใจเป็นอย่างมาก จึงไม่รอช้าในการเริ่มทดลองนำส่วนผสมต่างๆ มารังสรรค์เป็นขนมที่คล้ายคลึงกับพายพระจันทร์ทันทีที่กลับถึงเกาหลีใต้ เพื่อให้ได้รสชาติและสัมผัสที่ใกล้เคียงต้นกำเนิดมากที่สุด จนได้กลายมาเป็นช็อกโกพาย ผลิตโดยบริษัทโอริออน คอนเฟกชันนารี ซึ่งถือว่าเป็นเจ้าแรกที่ถือกำเนิดขนมช็อกโกพายในประเทศเกาหลีใต้ค่ะ

As we mentioned earlier that Choco Pie was formerly introduced in the United States, you might wonder how come this confectionery became popular in Eastern countries. Let us tell you how it all begin. This sweet, soft and chewy treat entered South Korea once the members of Tongyeoung Confectionery Company visited the manufacturer of Choco Pie in Southern United States in 1973tri. These people had chances to tried Chocolate Moon Pie and fell in love with it instantly. They didn’t wait too long to combine the ingredients to produce a dessert that looks similar to Moon Pie soon as they arrived to South Korea to retain the original taste and texture compared to the original one. Choco Pie was first introduced by Orion Corp. at that time, and that was the first Choco Pie manufacturer in South Korea.

เรื่องนี้ต้องขยายกันยาวสักหน่อย เพราะช็อกโกพายได้สร้างตำนานความฮิตทะลุปรอทในประเทศเกาหลีเหนือ ซึ่งเราก็ต่างรู้กันดีอยู่แล้วว่าเกาหลีเหนือและเกาหลีใต้นั้นมีวัฒนธรรมการใช้ชีวิตที่แตกต่างกัน โดยช็อกโกพายนั้น เป็นขนมยอดฮิตจากดินแดนใต้ดังไกลถึงพี่น้องชาวเกาหลีเหนือ จนทางการเกาหลีเหนือต้องประกาศสั่งแบนในปี ค.ศ.2014 ทำให้พ่อค้าแม่ขายจะต้องแอบแลกเปลี่ยนสินค้าช็อกโกพายกันในตลาดมืด ซึ่งสาเหตุก็มาจากนักธุรกิจชาวเกาหลีใต้ ต้องการตั้งโรงงานผลิตช็อกโกพายในเขตของเกาหลีเหนือเพราะต้องการจ่ายค่าแรงที่ถูก จึงได้มีการร้องขอผ่านศูนย์อุตสาหกรรมแคซองคอมเพล็กซ์ที่ทำงานร่วมกับรัฐบาล เพื่ออนุญาตให้ธุรกิจของเกาหลีใต้สามารถดำเนินการข้ามพรมแดนได้ค่ะ

The story of Choco Pie should be elaborated more since it became popular in North Korea as well. Most of us know that North Korea and South Korea have different cultures and lifestyles. During that time, Choco Pie was famous dessert from South Korea, and its popularity was wide spreading to North Korea. Finally, North Korea announced the prohibition of Choco Pie in 2014, and the vendors had sold Choco Pie secretly in dark market. The reason was because South Korean businessmen wanted to start Choco Pie factory in North Korea because of low wages. The request was submitted to Kaesong Industrial Complex which collaborated with the government and asked permission to do business in North Korea.

ในขณะนั้นมีชาวเกาหลีเหนือที่ถูกจ้างอยู่ที่นั้นจำนวนประมาณ 52,000 คน แต่แล้ววันหนึ่งธุรกิจของเกาหลีใต้ในดินแดนเกาหลีเหนือถูกห้ามไม่ให้จ่ายค่าทำงานล่วงเวลาเป็นเงินสด นายจ้างจึงเปลี่ยนมาเป็นแจกช็อกโกพายแทน โดยจะแจกให้กับพนักงานวันละ 1 โหลหรือ 12 ชิ้น มีกฎว่าสามารถนำไปให้ให้เพื่อน ครอบครัว หรือจะนำไปขายต่อก็ได้ จากเหตุการณ์นี้เองจึงทำให้มีช็อกโกพายขายในตลาดมืดมากสูงถึงเกือบ 2.5 ล้านชิ้นต่อเดือน และเนื่องจากเป็นสินค้าที่ทางการแบน จึงทำให้ราคาของช็อกโกพายพุ่งทะยานขึ้นสูงสุดอยู่ที่ 330 บาทต่อชิ้นเลยทีเดียวค่ะ

During that time, about 52,000 labors in North Korea were hired. However, the business in North Korea owned by South Korean businessmen was prohibited from paying wages overtime compensation in cash. So, the employer replaced cash with a dozen or 12 pieces of Choco Pie. The workers could give Choco Pie to their friends, family, or even exchange it for money. From this situation, up to 2.5 million pieces of Choco Pie were sold per month in dark market. Furthermore, the prohibition of Choco Pie by North Korean government resulted in higher price of Choco Pie, and 330 THB per piece was the highest price during that time.

เมื่อเรื่องถึงหูรัฐบาลเกาหลีเหนือ จึงเกิดความกังวลใจในปรากฏการณ์ความนิยมของขนมช็อกโกพาย ที่ถือว่าเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของทุนนิยม ซึ่งทำให้เกิดการเกร็งกำไรแบบไม่หยุดหย่อน ทางการเลยสั่งแบนขนมที่ผลิตจากเกาหลีใต้ พร้อมเปิดตัวแคมเปญโฆษณาชวนเชื่อ เพื่อบอกสหายพลเมืองว่าช็อกโกพายเป็นขนมที่อันตรายต่อร่างกาย เพื่อหยุดยั้งความฮอตฮิตของขนมชิ้นนี้จากดินแดนพี่น้องฝั่งใต้ค่ะ

Once the news was heard by the government of North Korea, Choco Pie phenomenon became their concerns since this product itself symbolized Capitalism and resulted in unstoppable speculation. The Government then decided to prohibit all confectionery produced in South Korea and launched campaign, claiming that Choco Pie was unhealthy to stop its popularity.

ทางเกาหลีใต้ก็ไม่ลดละที่จะเผยแพร่ความอร่อยไปสู่เกาหลีเหนือ ทำให้ในปี ค.ศ. 2014 นักเคลื่อนไหวกิจกรรมการเมืองชาวเกาหลีใต้จึงได้ปล่อยบอลลูนที่เต็มไปด้วยช็อกโกพายกว่า 10,000 ชิ้น ข้ามพรมแดนไปยังเกาหลีเหนือ ทันทีที่ทางการเกาหลีเหนือพบก็ได้สั่งเก็บขนมนี้ทันที และได้บอกให้เกาหลีใต้หยุดกิจกรรมดังกล่าวไป

Meanwhile, the South Korean didn’t stop their attempt to spread the deliciousness to North Korea. Accordingly, in 2014, the South Korean activists launched balloons packed with over 10,000 pieces of Choco Pie to North Korea. Soon as North Korean found out, they put them away and told South Korean activists to stop.

แต่ในเมื่อห้ามไม่ได้ ทางเกาหลีเหนือก็เลยจัดตั้งโรงงานผลิตช็อกโกพายขึ้นเองเลยในปี ค.ศ. 2015 โดยอ้างอิงจากหลักฐานที่ทางเกาหลีเหนือเผยแพร่คลิปภายในโรงงานผลิตช็อกโกพายในประเทศเกาหลีเหนือ โดยมีผู้นำประเทศสวมใส่ชุดกาวน์กำลังเดินตรวจทั่วโรงงาน ซึ่งเหตุการณ์นี้จึงเป็นจุดจบของตำนานช็อกโกพายของ 2 พี่น้องฝั่งเหนือใต้ที่แทบจะเกิดปมขัดแย้งเพราะขนมช็อกโกพายชิ้นเดียวค่ะ

When found out that Choco Pie Craze was unstoppable, North Korea decided to set up a Choco Pie factory in 2015. This can be referred to a clip video filmed in Choco Pie factory in North Korea as evidence. This video broadcasted the 2 North Korean supreme leaders visiting and monitoring the entire factory. This has ended the issues of Choco Pie, the famous confectionery which almost caused conflict between North and South Korea.
