เรามาทำความรู้จักกับที่มาของการเวียนเทียนกันก่อนนะคะ การเวียนเทียนเป็นพิธีการเดินเวียนรอบปูชนียวัตถุและปูชนียสถานทางศาสนาอย่างพระอุโบสถ วิหาร และพระพุทธรูป เพื่อเป็นการแสดงความเคารพต่อพระรัตนตรัย โดยปรากฏหลักฐานในพระไตรปิฎกว่าการเวียนเทียนเป็นวิธีการแสดงความเคารพอีกแบบหนึ่งเช่นกัน ซึ่งในประเทศไทยได้เริ่มพิธีเวียนเทียนมาตั้งแต่โบราณมีหลักฐานข้อความปรากฏในพงศาวดารกล่าวว่าเริ่มในสมัยทวารวดีส่งต่อพิธีเวียนเทียนสืบทอดกันมาจนถึงปัจจุบันนี้ค่ะ

First of all, we should learn about how circumambulation procession was originated. ‘Wian Tian’ is the Buddhist congregation walk around Buddhist sacred objects or sites such as ordination hall, vihara, and Buddha images in order to pay respects to the Triple Gems in Buddhism. The evidence was found in the Tipitaka that circumambulation procession is another method to pay respects to the Lord Buddha. In Thailand, the ritual has been performed a long time ago. According to the legend, the ritual of circumambulation procession has been performed since the Dvaravati period and has passed from generation to generation until nowadays.

และวันสำคัญทางพระพุทธศาสนาที่พุทธศาสนิกชนสามารถร่วมพิธีเวียนเทียนได้ มีทั้งหมด 4 วันใน 1 ปีค่ะ ได้แก่ วันมาฆบูชา (วันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 3) วันวิสาขบูชา (วันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 6) วันอัฏฐมีบูชา (วันแรม 8 ค่ำ เดือน 6) และวันอาสาฬหบูชา (วันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 8) โดยส่วนใหญ่แล้วคนนิยมเวียนเทียนกันในช่วงเวลา 17.00-20.00 น. ค่ะ

There are 4 Buddhist Holy Days of the year that the Buddhists perform the circumambulation procession, namely Makha Bucha Day (the 15th day of the waxing moon on the 3rd lunar month), Vesak Day (the 15th day of the waxing moon on the 6th lunar month), Buddha’s Cremation Commemorative Day (the 8th day of the waning moon of the 6th lunar month), and Asaha Bucha Day the 15th day of the waxing moon of the 8th lunar month). In general, the Buddhists participate in the rite between 5 PM – 8 PM.

สิ่งที่ควรเตรียมไปนอกจากร่างกายของเรา ที่ต้องอยู่ในกริยาที่สำรวมแล้ว การแต่งกายสุภาพก็เป็นสิ่งสำคัญก่อนที่จะไปเวียนเทียน เพราะวัดเป็นสถานที่ทางศาสนา การแต่งกายสุภาพจึงเป็นการให้เกียรติสถานที่ นอกจากนั้นยังต้องเตรียมดอกไม้ ธูป เทียนให้พร้อม แล้วไปวัดกันเลยค่ะ

You should be well-prepared when you take part in the rite. Apart from keeping yourself calm, you should dress properly. Since the temple is regarded as a religious site, dress and grooming should be appropriate and polite to show respect. You also need to bring flowers, incenses, and candles for the ritual. Now that you have everything ready, you can visit the temple.

เมื่อไปถึงวัดแล้ว หากมีเวลาเหลือสิ่งที่ท็อปพิกส์อยากแนะนำเลยคืออยากให้ทุกคนไปถึงวัดก่อนเวลาเวียนเทียนเล็กน้อยค่ะ เพราะจะได้มีเวลาเข้าไปกราบสักการะพระพุทธรูปในโบสถ์ก่อนออกมาร่วมพิธีเวียนเทียน โดยมีพระภิกษุนำหัวแถวขบวน ต่อด้วยสามเณร และตบท้ายด้วยพุทธศาสนิกชน นำดอกไม้ ธูป เทียนมาถือไว้ และพนมมือ เดินตามขบวนไปทางด้านขวามือ พร้อมสวดมนต์ เวียนรอบอุโบสถจนครบ 3 รอบ หลักจากนั้นให้นำดอกไม้ ธูป เทียนไปบูชาไว้ตามจุดที่ทางวัดกำหนดค่ะ

It's recommended to arrive at the temple a little earlier. If you still have time after your arrival, you should pay respects to the Buddha image in the ordination hall before the ritual starts. The Buddhist monks will lead the line, followed by the novices, and then the Buddhists. Everyone presses the hands together to the chest while holding flowers, incenses, and candles when performing the ritual. During the walk, they also chant. Once the Buddhist complete 3-round walking, the flowers, incenses and candles are offered at the drop point provided at the temple.

ถึงแม้ว่าวันวิสาขบูชาในปีนี้ เราจะไม่สามารถออกไปเวียนเทียนที่วัดได้ แต่สิ่งที่เราสามารถทำได้ตอนนี้คือการสวดมนต์ นั่งสมาธิ ทำจิตใจให้ผ่องใส เพื่อบูชาพระรัตนตรัย และพึงระลึกเสมอว่าธรรมะอยู่ในใจ หาใช่ที่อื่นไม่

Though nobody can join the circumambulation procession at the temple this coming Vesak Day, everyone can chant, do the meditation, and observe the 5 precepts to pay respects to the Triple Gem in Buddhism. Please remember that the Dharma is always with us, not anywhere else.
