ในช่วงปลายปีแบบนี้ก็มีอีกหนึ่งวันสำคัญทางพระพุทธศาสนาสำหรับพระสงฆ์ และพุทธศาสนิกชนชาวไทย ซึ่งก็คือวันออกพรรษา ตรงกับวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 11 นั่นเองค่ะ โดยวันออกพรรษาเป็นวันที่พระสงฆ์สิ้นสุดระยะการจำพรรษาเป็นเวลา 3 เดือน นับตั้งแต่วันเข้าพรรษา (วันแรม 1 ค่ำ เดือน 8) จึงเป็นโอกาสอันดีที่พุทธศาสนิกชนทั้งหลายจะเข้าวัดทำกิจกรรมทางธรรมร่วมกันหลังจากที่พระสงฆ์ได้จำพรรษามาเป็นระยะเวลากว่า 3 เดือน โดยวันออกพรรษาก็มีชื่อเรียกอีกอย่างหนึ่งว่า “วันมหาปวารณา” ซึ่งเป็นวันที่เปิดโอกาสให้พระสงฆ์ว่ากล่าวตักเตือนกันได้ เพื่อแก้ไขข้อบกพร่องและปรับปรุงตัวให้ดีขึ้นค่ะ

At the end of the year, there’s another important day in Buddhism for all Buddhist monks and the lay Buddhists. This major event is End of Buddhist Lent Day which falls on the 15th waxing moon day of the 11th lunar month. End of Buddhist Lent Day signifies the end of Buddhist Lent when monks return to their daily routines after 3 months of retreat (the 1st waning moon day of the 8th lunar month). So, it would be a great opportunity for the lay Buddhists to gather altogether at the temple and participate in religious activities after over 3 months of rain-retreat period that the monks stay in monastery. End of Buddhist Lent Day is also called “Maha Pavarana Day” as it enables the monks to preach and guide laypeople to observe their conducts.

“Tak Bat Devo”

ตักบาตรเทโว หรือการตักบาตรเทโวโรหณะ อีกหนึ่งประเพณีไทยที่มักทำร่วมกันในช่วงหลังวันออกพรรษา 1 วัน ซึ่งจะตรงกับเช้าของวันแรม 1 ค่ำ เดือน 11 โดยมีความเชื่อว่าเป็นวันที่พระพุทธเจ้าเสด็จลงมาจากสวรรค์ชั้นดาวดึงส์ เพื่อมาแสดงอภิธรรมเทศนาโปรดมารดาในเทวโลก ชาวพุทธจึงจัดกิจกรรมตักบาตร เพื่อเป็นการเฉลิมฉลองต้อนรับพระพุทธเจ้าเสด็จลงมา โดยไม่ได้นัดหมายกันมาก่อน จนประพฤติปฏิบัติกันมาถึงปัจจุบันนี้ค่ะ สำหรับอาหารพิเศษที่เตรียมไว้สำหรับกิจกรรมการตักบาตรเทโว ก็คือข้าวต้มมัด และข้าวต้มลูกโยนค่ะ ถ้าเพื่อนๆ คนไหนสนใจอยากร่วมกิจกรรมนี้ล่ะก็จดลิสต์เตรียมของไว้ได้เลยนะคะ

Tak Bat Devo is also known as “Tak Bat Devo Rohana”. It’s one of the Thai traditional events celebrated among the Buddhists a day after End of Buddhist Lent or early morning of the 1st waning moon of the 11th lunar month. People believe that on this day, the Lord Buddha descended from Tavatimsa Heaven after delivering a sermon to his mother. So, the Buddhists arrange alms-giving ceremony to celebrate the return of the Lord Buddha without a prior appointment. This event has been held from the past until nowadays. Special foods that the Buddhists prepare for the ceremony are “Khao Tom Mud” and “Khao Tom Luk Yon”.

Kathin Ceremony

หลังจากวันออกพรรษาผ่านไป ก็จะมีอีกหนึ่งประเพณีที่จัดขึ้นตามกันมาติดๆ ซึ่งก็คือ “พิธีทอดกฐิน” นั่นเองค่ะ การจัดพิธีทอดกฐินนั้น จะจัดขึ้นตั้งแต่วันแรม 1 ค่ำ เดือน 11 ไปจนถึงวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 12 สิริรวมเป็นเวลา 1 เดือนหลังจากวันออกพรรษาค่ะ แรกเริ่มเดิมทีกิจกรรมในพิธีทอดกฐิน ชาวพุทธทั้งหลายจะรวมตัวกันเพื่อถวายผ้ากฐินในแง่สนับสนุนผ้าไตรจีวรให้แด่พระภิกษุสงฆ์ทั้งหลาย เพื่อนำไปใช้ในสังฆกรรม แต่ในปัจจุบันนี้ชาวพุทธส่วนใหญ่มักจะสร้างกฐินทาน ซึ่งจะเน้นไปในทางตัวเงิน หรือสิ่งของมากกว่า เพื่อเอื้อเฟื้อต่อการทำนุบำรุงพระพุทธศาสนา และพัฒนาซ่อมแซมสถานที่ภายในวัดให้มีความมั่นคงแข็งแรงมากยิ่งขึ้น ซึ่งก็ถือว่าเป็นสังฆฑานอย่างหนึ่งเช่นเดียวกับการทอดกฐินแบบฉบับดั้งเดิมค่ะ

After the End of Buddhist Lent, another upcoming event is “Thod Kathin Robes Offering Ceremony”. This event usually starts from the 1st waning moon day of the 11th lunar month to the 15th waxing moon day of the 12th lunar month or one month after the End of Buddhist Lent. Traditionally, the Buddhists is gathering to offer Kathin robes or the three garments to the monks for deed performed in the temple precincts. However, nowadays the annual robe offered to the monks is usually in the form of money or other types of offering rather than robes

with the aim to preserve the religion and to maintain or repair the monastery, making the place stable and lasting longer. It’s also considered a type of offering just like the traditional Thod Kathin Robes Offering Ceremony.
